In 1944 he entered the community at Ampleforth. Immediately after his noviciate he was put in charge of Ampleforth Village parish and three years later began a long apostolate in the Abbey's parishes in Lancashire, Cumbria and South Wales. In 1949 he went to St Alban's, Warrington, followed four years later by St Mary's in Warrington. In 1959 he moved to St Mary's, Bamber Bridge before moving to Harrington in 1963, St Peter's, Seel Street, Liverpool in 1966 and St Mary's, Cardiff in 1967.
He returned to the Abbey early in 1983, and after a few months of recuperation, he returned briefly to Lancashire (Lostock Hall and Cardiff). He suffered a stroke on 1 September and was sent to Northallerton hospital for treatment where he died on the morning of 12 September.
He was a quiet, unobtrusive man, but much loved and admired. It was characteristic, so to speak, for him to be overlooked by the Ampleforth Journal, which failed to provide an obituary. His chief glory will be the many souls whose path to heaven he made easier, or perhaps even possible. And it was appropriate that he should die on a visit to the Abbey to fulfil his duties to the Chapter.
